OtherInfoMontagu was exempt from paying subscriptions to the Royal Society and was inactive in its work and activities. Although initially a parliamentarian army officer, Montagu came into conflict with Cromwell in 1644 and ultimately resigned his command in 1645. He was not in the public eye during the remainder of the Commonwealth but assisted in the Restoration and was subsequently bestowed honours by Charles II.
