Succedded his father 24 February 1869 as the second Baronet and was created Baron Waveney 10 April 1873; Lord Lieutenant Co. Antrim 1883-86; Hon. Col. 4th Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles; Chairman, Ipswich Quarter Session.
