Letter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to [Lieutenant-Colonel] Kenelm Edgcumbe Recalls the previous meeting of the General Purposes Committee of the Institution when he was asked to sound Sir Charles Parsons as to whether he would be willing to provide a portrait for the Lecture Hall of John Hopkinson. Informs that shortly after Parsons told him he would prefer to provide a portrait of Sir Joseph Swan, but since then has not had opportunity to speak to him. The most recent update is that now Sir Thomas Callender offered to provide a portrait of Hopkinson, and one of Sir Joseph Swan from Sir Hugo Hirst, and as far as he knows both were accepted. 10 December 1928
