<dc:title>Unpublished journal, 'Tenerife' by [Francis?] Masson</dc:title>
<dc:description>Masson's journal describes travels in Tenerife [Canary Islands, Spain], including a journey to the summit of the Pico de Teyd [Pico de Tiede], travelling via Puerto d'la Orotava [Puerto de la Orotava], Estancia de los Ingleses, Altavista, Malpais [Malpaís de Güímar], Cueva de Hiel, and Sugar Loaf. From the peak of Pico de Tiede, Masson describes seeing the summits of the neighbouring islands including Gran Canaria [Canary Islands, Spain], Palma [Palma de Mallorca/Majorca, Spain], Gomera [La Gomera, Canary Islands, Spain] and Hiera [Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain]. Masson describes the vegetation, terrain, and weather along the way, and includes barometric and thermometric observations. The final four pages, dated 16 October 1776 at Ste Croix [Switzerland?], are a letter, all in quotes, in both French and Spanish regarding barometric observations taken at Pico de Tiede in Tenerife.

An ink inscription top of first page reads 'Masson's Journal'.
