Unpublished paper and letter, 'Examinations of the effects of the upas antiar - and of several emetic substances' by [Alire Raffeneau] Delile Delile writes about the effects of the poisonous plant called upas antiar [Antiaris toxicaria], found on Java [Indonesia], which causes death when inserted into a wound. Delile describes experiments carried out on the plant by himself and [François] Magendie using cats, dogs, horses, and mules as test subjects in order to observe the effects of different doses of upas antiar.
