<dc:title>Copy letter from Llewelyn Southworth Lloyd, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, 15 Great George Street, Westminster, to Ernest Howard Griffiths, 5 Selwyn Gardens, Cambridge</dc:title>
<dc:description>The Advisory Council has considered Griffiths' application on proposed research on the specific heat of gases. The Council have recently obtained information on the steps taken by Government to gain information on industrial processes used in the fixation of nitrogen in the occupied territories of Germany. Taking this into consideration, Council concluded that the research proposed by Griffiths falls under the scope of the National Physical Laboratory. They do not feel able to recommend grants to those working outside the Laboratory. The advice of the Royal Society's Physics Committee has been requested. If it should be decided that Griffiths' proposed research should be undertaken at the National Physical Laboratory, Council hopes that it may be possible to take advantage of his wide experience. </dc:description>
