<dc:title>Printed minute from a meeting of the Royal Society Council held on 28 May 1903</dc:title>
<dc:description>Reported at Council that it was now 'almost certain' that the 'Discovery' would remain in the Antarctic for another winter. A letter from the President of the Society [William Huggins] and the Royal Geographical Society [Clements Markham] to the First Lord of the Treasury [Arthur James Balfour] was sent on 19 May, to request a grant for a further relief ship. A copy of the text of the letter is included. As a result of the letter, Balfour raised a complaint about the Royal Society in connection with the Antarctic Expedition in Parliament. The President will write to him to request an interview to discuss this matter.</dc:description>
