Letter from [George Howard] Darwin, Newnham Grange, Cambridge, to the Geodetic Arc Committee of the Royal Society Explains that a Committee of the Government of India has recently been appointed to review the condition of the survey of India with the object of bringing the maps up to date, and general to review the whole department. Notes that the cost of the reivison may be heavy and there might be reason to fear that the more strictly scientific work of the survey could suffer. Thinks that the Royal Society should ask the Government of India not to make any fundamental changes affecting the scientific work of the survey without consulting the Royal Society. 22 January 1905
