Letter from William Napier Shaw, Meteorological Office, South Kensington, London, to the Secretary, Gassiot Committee, Royal Society, Burlington House The Meteorological Committee have a proposal to co-operate with Amundsen's polar expedition, observing aurora. Shetland is favourably placed for frequent observations. The report of the Norwegian Government has suggested that Britain should equip and maintain an observation station at Jan Mayen. He asks that the matter be referred to the Gassiot Committee, who could assist by considering the question of photographing aurora, with the staff and material required. 28 July 1919
