Letter from Arthur Schuster, Secretary of the Royal Society, Burlington House, London, to Sir Douglas Mawson He has received Mawson's letter of 12 July. Council of the Royal Society met on Thursday and Schuster presented Mawson's former letters, with those of Chree. They have voted a sum not exceeding £100 from the Caird Fund for reductions of the magnetic observations. He understands from the later letter that £50 will be sufficient and this may be obtained by applying to the Assistant Secretary. The Society cannot pledge for the future, but they realise the importance of completing a full discussion by Dr. Chree of the observations, to be published by the New Zealand Government, and further applications would be viewed sympathetically. 15 July 1916
