<dc:title>Diagram, Instruments for sounding the depth of the sea and bringing samples of water to the surface by Robert Hooke</dc:title>
<dc:description>Figures illustrating the paper: 'The wayes which I prefer before severall other Contrivances which I thought of, for sounding ye Depth of the Sea and fetching up water from any Depth are these.'

Figure 1 shows an instrument for sounding depths, with a sphere on top hooked onto a sphere below. Figure 2 shows an instrument for fetching water from any depth in the sea, a large bow-shaped instrument with two boxes attached to it. A small additional slip of paper showing the lower part of the instrument for Figure 2 (which appears as an oval shaped instrument hanging off the rest by a hook) has been attached to the bottom of the drawing with red sealing wax.
