  <dc:title>Appendix to Minutes of a meeting of the Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee</dc:title>
  <dc:description> ' Copy of a letter dated 3 May 1968 from Dr G Henderson, Department of Physics, Heriot-Watt University, Chambers Street, Edinburgh 1, to the Secretary of the Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee, Professor C W Allen

I have been reconsidering the proposed eclipse expedition and I now feel that the high prospects of good viewing conditions in the Tehuantepec region justify the use of one observing site only thus enabling costs to be kept down. I therefore would like to propose one three-man team to spend 30 days in the field, the aim being to be set up for tests on the full moon prior to eclipse.

I estimate the new expedition costs as follows;
1 Round trip fare Edinburgh-Acapulco in 1970 ...£300
30 days living expenses at US dollars 20 per diem ... £250
Total A ...£550

Total A for 3 men ... £1650
Equipment transport Edinburgh-Vera Cruz and return ... £300
Truck rental, Vera-Cruz site, return and site service ... £200
Services (liquid N, power, etc) ... £200
Insurance ... £100
Crating ... £150
Total ....  £2550

I include an extract from the March issue of 'Sky and Telescope' with apologies for the poor reproduction. I would expect to set up a site to the NE of Nejapa, marked with an X, however I will make proper enquiries if the possibility of going soon becomes more definite. Professor GuidoMunch of Cal. Tech. who is a personal frien is from Mexico and will be assisting me in site selection.

I hope this information will assist the committee in reaching a favourable decision and I look forward to hearing from you. '</dc:description>
