<dc:title>Minutes of a meeting of the Engineering Geology Subcommittee, British National Committee for Geology</dc:title>
<dc:description>At the initial meeting of the Engineering Geology Subcommittee of the British National Committee for Geology on 14 October 1975:

Present: Professor W R Deawrman, Chairman; Dr A B Hawkins; Dr J Mather

1. Genesis
It was reported that, following the ad hoc meeting on 25 November 1974 [NGL/16 (74)] to examine proposals for UK adherence to the International Association of Engineering Geologists (I.A.E.G), the British National Committee for Geology had approved the formation of an Engineering Geology Subcommittee.

2. Terms of reference
It was noted that the Subcommittee had the following terms of reference:
i. To correspond to the IAEG, but without the responsibility for IAEG subscriptions
ii. To nominate UK representatives to IAEG plenary sessions
iii. To report to the British National Committee for Geology

3. Membership
a. It was reported that the British National Committee for Geology had approved the following initial membership for the Subcommittee:
      Professor W R Dearman, Chairman; Mr D Eastaff; Dr P A Fookes; Dr A B HAwkins; Professor J L Knill; Dr J Mather; Professor J Nash; Dr A Penman; Mr D G Price
b. After discussion, it was agreed that it was not appropriate for the Geological Society to nominate a formal representative on the Subcommittee, since the Society was already represented by two members of its Engineering Group (Mr Eastaff and Dr Hawkins)
c. It was recommended that Dr R Cratchley (IGS) should be added to the membership and that Mr P F F Lancaster-Jones should replace Mr Price who had lefdt the UJK to take up an appointment at Delft University.
d. In considering an enquiry from Professor NAsh, it was agreed that rather than institute a formal rota for retirement the Subcommittee should review the membership from time to tome with a view to ensuring the inclusion of those active in engineering geology - without increasing unduly the number of members.

4. Relations with the IAEG

5. IAEG Council Meeting 1975

6. Forthcoming meetings of IAEG Council

7. Forthcoming scientific meetings
