Harriot Papers - Council approved Committee's recommendation and awarded a grant of £1000 from the Parliamentary Grant in Aid (Scientific Investigations) and payment made to Professor D B Quinn, Chairman of the Thomas Harriot Editorial committee. A progress report had been requested from Professor Quinn by December 1971

Recommendation to Council;
Minute 7 - that grants from the Parliamentary Grant in Aid (libraries assistance) for research in the history of science be made as follows;
1.   £75 to Dr E G Forbes, University of Edinburgh, to study Flamsteed material in the Royal Society Library and to microfilm as required, for the introduction to a book on his lectures and in preparation for a future bibliogrphy.
2.   £43 to Miss Jean O'Connor, University of Leicester, to examine manuscript material in a number of scientific societies for research in the origins and changes in periodical publications in geology and geophysics in the UK
3.   £100 to Mr R D Wood, Institute of Opthalmology, London, to study Sir John Herschel's correspondence at the Royal Society, Royal Institution and Royal Astronomical Society and to have photocopies made where possible for research in the history of photography and associated sciences in the 1830's and 1840's.</dc:description>
