Minutes of a meeting of the UK Scout II Working Group, Design of Experiments Subcommittee, British National Committee on Space Research Present: Mr M O Robins, Chairman; Dr R L F Boyd; Dr E B Dorling; Dr H Elliiot; Mr J Hughill; Dr R C Jennison; Dr J J Quenby; Dr F G Smith; Dr K H Stewart Mr E W Thomas was in attendance 1. Terms of Reference and Membership It was reported tht the Satellite Experiments Coordinating Group at its meeting on 22 June 1960 had set up a UK Scout II Working Group of the Design of Experiments Subcommittee with the following terms of reference; 1. To initiate all the necessary action in connection with the experiments to be launched in UK Scout Satellite II 2. To report to the Design of Experiments Subcommittee of the British National Committee on Space Research Membership of the group is as folows; Mr M C Robins, Chairman; Dr E B Dorling; Dr R L F Boyd; Dr H elliot; Dr R Frith; Dr R C Jennison; Dr F G Smith; other members being co-opted as and when necessary 2. Detailed UK Requirements 4a Telemetry (i) Dr F G Smith (ii) Dr Frith and Dr Stewart (iii) Dr Elliot and Dr Quenby (iv) Dr Jennison (v) Dr Boyd The Chairman asked that experimenters should revise their original papers setting out their requirements in the light of the discussions at the present meeting. This information was required by NASA as soon as possible 4b Power (i) Dr Frith and Dr Stewart (ii) Dr Smith (iii) Dr Elliot and Dr Quenby (iv) Dr Jennison (v) Dr Boyd The Chairman remarked that these power demands could probably be easily accommodated from the 4 watts or so which was likely to be available. The power requirements of the telemetry and encoders were not yet known precisely, but were unlikely to be excessive. The stability of the power supply was 9 volts +/- 1 volt which would mean that Dr Smith and Dr Frith would probably have to provide their own stabilization for their experiments. 4c Specs 5.
