Copy, letter from C P Lucas of the Colonial Office, Downing Street, to the Secretary of the Royal Society, Burlington House Informs him that Secretary Chamberlain has had a conference with Lord Lister and Dr Patrick Manson; suggests that the Society amend its plans and send a biologist to Italy to learn of 'the most recent results of biological science as bearing on the subject', and that Chamberlain nominate a second expert to study under Surgeon-Major Ross; is 'somewhat disappointed that the Royal Society does not see its way to making a larger contribution' but will not let expense stand in the wya of the investigation. p6-7. 8 August 1898
