A letter urging the great importance of establishing a satisfactory organisations was read from the Astronomer Royal. A list of volunteers was read by Mr Huggins, and a circular from the Royal Astronomical Society to whose terms most of the volunteers had agreed. Resolutions were passed regarding the preliminary arrangements for photography, spectroscopy, polarization and general objects; the Sub-committee appointed by the Royal Society to ascertain from the Government what aid they might give; that the Government may provide finance as well as transportation; that the Sub-committee bring to the Govenment's attention the importance of two ships for Spain and Sicily respectively. 16 June 1870
