Commencing with a list of Council members present: Samuel Hunter Christie; John Frederic Daniell; William Haseldine Pepys; George Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; Charles Wheatstone; the President, Spencer Joshua Alwyn Compton, 2nd Marquess of Northampton, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. James Scott Bowerbank nominated as a member of the Microscope Committee. Letter from Charles Few, Covent Garden, 15 October 1842, to Sir John William Lubbock, full text entered into the minutes: submitting a detailed statement of of cash received and costs paid on Sir Clifton Winteringham's bequest, recommending the opening of a distinct account for the sum. Charles Townely applied for an extension to the period for admission to the Fellowship, granted. Auditors' report presented, the Society havign a balance of £1,145 3s. 5d. Letter read from Professor Ohm, thanking the Society for the award of the Copley Medal last year.  </dc:description>
