Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Cavendish, Earl of Burlington; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; John Frederick Daniell; Davies Gilbert; Reverend George Peacock; William Haseldine Pepys; Stephen Peter Rigaud; Peter Mark Roget; Captain William Henry Smyth; Benjamin Travers; James Walker; Charles Wheatstone; the Treasurer, Francis Baily, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Resolutions to be adopted in the award of Royal Medals, subject to the Queen's approval: medals in 1840 to be given for papers in physics and geology, including mineralogy; permament subject committees to be formed from members active in those area, to respond to questions from Council; committees should have seven members with the power to add more members, up to fifteen; eight committees proposed in mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy, meteorology, mineralogy and geology, botany and vegetable physiology, and in zoology and animal physiology; members to be elected at next Council. The bill of Simpkin Marshall and Company, for books, to be paid. </dc:description>
