Commencing with a list of Council members present: Thomas Bell; Reverend James Booth; Samuel Hunter Christie; Warren De La Rue; Thomas Graham; William Robert Grove; Joseph Dalton Hooker; Thomas Henry Huxley; Henry Bence Jones; George Newport; Sir Frederick Pollock; Reverend Baden Powell; William Sharpey; Admiral William Henry Smyth; Charles Wheatstone; the Vice-President and Treasurer, Colonel Edward Sabine, in the chair. 

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Sir Frederick Pollock made and subscribed to the Declaration in lieu of the oath as a new Member of Council. The last part of the Philosophical Transactions for 1853 was tabled, and the late Secretary, Mr. Bell, explained the causes of its late publication; resolved that the Secretary, in cases of undue delay, shall state to the author the time by which the proofs must be returned to the printer for press; in the event of non-complaince, the paper cannot appear in the part of Transactions then being prepared. On the motion of Mr. Bell, seconded by Mr. Christie, Walter White's salary was increased to £150 per annum.   </dc:description>
