Berliner was founder and for twenty-five years editor of the scientific weekly journal 'Die Naturwissenschaften', before being forced from office in 1935 by the Nazis on account of being a Jew.  He committed suicide in 1942 when he knew he was destined for a Nazi concentration camp.</dc:description>
