Copy letter, from [Frederick Marow] Eardley-Wilmot to [Thomas] Maclear, dated at Cape Has been instructed by the British Government to travel to the Cape Colony and superintend a magnetic observatory, and constructing the 'necessary' buildings. Asks if there is land attached to the Royal Astronomical Observatory under the charge of Maclear, and could it be appropriated by the Ordnance Department for this purpose. 25 March 1840
