<dc:title>Draft letter from J F W H [John Frederick William Herschel], to [William Henry Bateson]</dc:title>
<dc:description>He thanks Bateson for his comments [on his translation of Friedrich von Schiller's 'Spaziergang' into Latin] on 'three offenses against quantity'. Herschel explains his thinking and asks if Bateson would be kind enough to make such corrections in the copy he sent to him. He is glad that Bateson liked the whole rendering, although it is pallid and colourless compared with the diction and imagery of the original. He does not think it can be expressed in Latin in the same number of lines. </dc:description>
