Letter from C [Charles] Pritchard, Clapham, to Lady [Margaret Brodie] Herschel He returned to Clapham from Rome last night. He is concerned about Sir John's continued suffering and he thinks her right in keeping Alick [Alexander Stewart Herschel] home for his father's sake. Sir John should work Alick on 'chances' and on algebra, with a practical in September on finite differences; no man in Cambridge can do these so well. He gives other advice and apologises for the hurried note. Charles [Bradley Pritchard?] has passed the examination [for the Bombay Civil Service], despite having little time for preparation. Twelve out of thirty-three candidates were rejected. Johnny [John Herschel] must not work less than he has. 31 July 1855
