<dc:title>Letter from J A [Joseph Alfred] Hardcastle, The Dial House, Crowthorne, Berkshire, to 'Dear Uncle Willie' [Sir William James Herschel]</dc:title>
<dc:description>He has just forwarded a solemn note from [Arthur Robert] Hinks, which prompts Alfred to discuss portraits. Hinks suggests that the Arnaud is most attractive to be copied, but Alfred thinks that Sir William will reply that the Abbott shows a distinctly Herschel face. He opens the question, considering that an oil painting would be preferable to a colour photograph, but he asks about other possible methods of reproduction. He will write about the shadow formula later. </dc:description>
