<dc:title>Newspaper cutting, Editorial from 'The Englishman'</dc:title>
<dc:description>Editorial on the case of Frederick R Browning, Assistant Engineer of the East Indian Railway Company, charged with beating Mutte Lall Mookerjee. Commencing: 'Mr. Browning has sent us the Official Papers relative to his case before Mr. Herschel...'. This account blames Browning's conviction on his defence being left to a Moktear, 'who utterly denied the charge, and declared that it was a private quarrel...'.

With manuscript notes by William James Herschel, intended for his father, Sir John Frederick William Herschel, and referred to in his letter HSF/3/6/8. These include his account of the assault, in which the victim 'was tied up to a tree and adminstered 2 dozen'. </dc:description>
