<dc:title>Letter from William James Herschel, Jungipoor, to 'Dearest Mother' [Margaret Brodie Herschel]</dc:title>
<dc:description>Johnny [John Herschel] promises to write with news this mail, but he is out duck-shooting. He arrived yesterday, putting William's plans out, but they will have a chance to see Darjeeling, where the highest mountain in the world lies. They will stay for ten or twelve days then return to Calcutta [Kolkata]. He is in distress at the precious minutes required to close his office. He received doylys from home and a diary. Looey's sketches are 'delicious' [Margaret Louisa Herschel] and he is wearing Bella's cap [Isabella Herschel]. John is much changed. He asks for any standard work on the pendulum experiment. </dc:description>
