<dc:title>Letter from William (Bill) Shockley, Bell Telephone Laboratories, to John Nye</dc:title>
<dc:description>Discussing possible research that Nye could undertake as part of his one-year appointment at Bell Labs in 1952. In particular, discusses research by R D Heidenreich and J K Roros, examining the effect of intermittent stress on aluminium crystals. These stresses cause Kikuchi lines on the crystal's surface to disappear, and appear to harden the surface as a result. Proposes that Nye continues this research to determine levels of stress necessary to produce this result. Folder contains the original signed letter and a carbon copy of the same.</dc:description>
