  <dc:description>He sends his last hourly observations, supposing that Johnson has not yet returned to town. He hopes that Johnson will be in good health and will have enjoyed his excursion. 

With a table headed [p.1]: 'Observations made in Latitude 52" 36" 12" N Longde. 6" 58 E. Commencing at 9AM and ending at 9PM September 21st 1840' [September equinox]. A second table [p.3] is headed: 'Pressure of the Atmosphere observed for 12 successive Hours Commencing at 9AM and ending at 9PM (Mean Time) June 22nd 1840' [June solstice]. Columns for the hours of mean time, portable barometer, attached thermometer, external thermometer, hygrometer, wind direction and general weather remarks. 

Inscribed [p.1]: 'Recd. of Captain Johnson Dec 23 + 1840 J.F.W.H. [John Frederick William Herschel]. For communication to the Phy. Committee R.S.'. A similar inscription appears on p.3.  Endorsed [p.6]: 'Mr. Utting's Obsns. for the Physical Committee R.S.'      </dc:description>
