The date of the manuscript coincides with Joseph Banks's expedition to Labrador and Newfoundland in 1766. Headed [p.1]: 'A Daily Account kept of the Thermometer at York Fort in Pitts Harbour in Labradore in the Latitude 52:00 N. ..the Thermometer was hung up wihout the House on the West Side'. Stamped 'Soc. Reg. Lond.' and inscribed 'Presented by Sir Joseph Banks Bart. Pr. R.S. Jany. 19 1792'.
