(aa) Fig. II represents the receiver, the surface of which is exactly 100 square inches &amp; is about an inch &amp; a half deep: from this the rain falls into the tube (bb) thro' the opening (c): this tube is of such a size that one cubic inch of water, occupies about an inch of its length. (d) is a hollow ball of very this copper, &amp; so light, that it, together with the scale (e)...readily float in the water'.             </dc:description>
