From the 19th October 1791 to the 1st January 1804', by Benjamin Roebuck Description of a type of pluviometer in use by the author near Fort St. George, Madras [now Chennai], India, together with the difficulties of using such instruments in heavy rainfall and high evaporation. 'The vessels were placed near each other on the top of a House three Miles West of Fort St. George and above Trees or anything which could hinder the full quantity of rain which fell from getting into them...' Accompanied by a table showing monthly rainfall in inches in columns for the years 1791-1803, with totals for each year, and totals and averages for the full thirteen-year period. Stamped [p.2] 'Soc. Reg. Lond.' and inscribed 'Presented by John Johnstone Esqr. Jany. 16. 1806'. Inscribed in pencil [p.4] 'John Johnstone Esqr Birmingham'. 1804 [?]
