Ludlow describes the building, its axis, and the selection of magnets for its use. Ludlow describes the testing of magnetometers, and the locating of meteorological instruments, notably a barometer, thermometers and an anemometer. 

Signed [p.17]: 'S.O.E. Ludlow Supt. Magc. Observy. Madras'. There is a pencil note signed by Edward Sabine [p.15], indicating that defects in the anemometer were 'communicated to Mr. Newman June 25 41'.    </dc:description>
