Magnetic observations made at Cape Adare, Antarctica, and elewehere, by Louis Bernacchi and William Colbeck Magnetometer observations made mainly at Cape Adare, East Antarctica. Sheets contain initial information on the date, observing station, latitude and longitude, chronometer type, error at station, magnet suspended, zero reading, one division of scale, and state of the weather. The main tables record readings of verniers with sacle erect and inverted, with times, temperature, means and declination. Calculations derived include values for the absolute declination, and also corrections for torsion. The first observation [p.3] was made at Kew Observatory, with the final observations 'near Coulan Island' [p.119] and at Stewart Island, New Zealand [p.113]. Made during the British Antarctic Expedition 1898-1900 [the Southern Cross Expedition] led by Captain Carsten Borchgrevink. Each recto sheet is headed 'Observations of absolute declination' and marked as 'K.O. Mag. Form C'. The observer is noted on each sheet, with the signatures of Louis Bernacchi and William Colbeck. Some verso pages have pencilled notes and calculations. There is a 4p. sheet of rough pencil calculations inserted at end of the volume. 5 August 1898-8 April 1900
