<dc:title>Letter from William Lester, Eavestone, to the Secretary of the Royal Society </dc:title>
<dc:description>Regarding Lester's recent invention of mirrored lamps, for which he received 'His Majesty's Royal Letters Patent'. Lester applies for a premium of £1,000 set aside by Count Rumford for discoveries of this kind. Lester claims inspiration for this discovery from having been active on the West India Docks.
The letter includes a copy of a certifying letter by William Huntress, a cotton mill owner in Yorkshire, on the use of these lamps, dated 2 January 1819. </dc:description>
