Letter from Harold [Bailey] Dixon, The Owens College, Manchster, to Professor [Michael] Foster Dixon requests a grant of £30 from the Royal Society on behalf of Messrs Strange and Graham, who inder Dixon's instruction are 'investigating' 'the nature of the flame produced in the "explosion wave" when gasses are fired'. They are currently photographing 'the flash' in order to 'obtain the duration of the flame and its intensity in different parts'.
