Letter from Harold [Bailey] Dixon, The Owens College, Manchester, to Lord Rayleigh [John William Strutt] Dixon requests a grant from the Government Fund, in order to carry on his investigations 'on the nature of the explosion wave in gases and on the mode of burning of gaseous carbon'. Suggests the Council of the Royal Society should appoint someone in his place on the Chemistry Committee, or send is application to the Physics Committee if they are not 'over burdened', as he would not like the decision to be made by a Committee he is a part of. 28 January 1896
