Letter from C E Stromeyer, Manchester Steam Users' Association, 9 Mount Street, Albert Square, Manchester, to the Secretary of the Royal Society Stromeyer has found in Association records that Mr W Fairbarn was granted £50 from its Committee in 1855 to make his experiments on strengths of furnaces. The Royal Society and British Assocaition published these experiments in 1858. Stromeyer does not understand why Fairbarn did not mention the Association in connection with this matter, and would like to know if he received a grant from the Society. 22 November 1904
