Letter from J B Skemp, Secretary of the Society for the Protection of Science and Learning, to A V Hill Asks for assistance in the case of Dr Armando Cortesao, an exiled Portuguese historian. Describes his case - that he lost his university post with the new dictatorship in Portugal, and was taken on by the BBC until the Portuguese pressed for his dismissal - that the Society has been paying his subsistence since. 'We have always regarded Cortesao as a victim of the ''appeasement policy'' toward Portugal.' Hopes that Hill can help him secure a proposed trip to America where he can perhaps find a university post. 4 April 1945
