He returns a cheque for the unspent balance of £18 12s. 7d., with an account of expenditure and vouchers [not present]. Sir Archibald Geikie was awarded a grant of £50 from the Royal Society's Donation Fund in October 1895, 'to assist him in excavations at Hitchin'. 3 March 1897
