<dc:title>Correspondence and papers on the Royal Society's instruments on loan </dc:title>
<dc:description>Lists of instruments belonging to the Royal Society, with correspondence on their disposition and loan. The file commences with a printed list of instruments from 1834 with subsequent records. The letters include exchanges with the Standards Department at Old Palace Yard, Westminster, from 1872; material entrusted to the Science Museum, South Kensington, from 1920; and general historical loans. Other objects itemised here include instruments at the Science Museum from the British Empire Exhibition Committee, and receipts from scientists having Royal Society instruments on loan, paid for by the Government Grant. There is a summary list of these, 'Present distribution of instruments of permanent value purchased out if the Government Grant for Scientific Investigations 1930-1937'. There are occasional photographs of the objects.</dc:description>
