Statement from the Council of the Royal Society about Dr Charles Hutton, Foreign Secretary Hutton was charged with neglecting his duties as Foreign Secretary, in not replying to letters from Foreign Members. As a result, the Council ruled that the post of Foreign Secretary could only be held by someone resident in London, forcing Hutton from the post. c.1783
