"Extract from a note made by G B Airy immediately after the meeting of the Council of the Royal Society on July 9 or 10 1840" The extract gives Airy's opinion on the call for the establishment of a magnetical and meteorological observatory "in the neighbourhood of London". MM/11/87-90 are written in the same hand and appear to be by G B Airy who was concerned about the effect on the Greenwich Observatory of attempts to build a new observatory for magnetical observations.
