Astronomical quadrant by John Bird 12-inch brass astronomical quadrant, comprising a piece of metal in the shape of a quarter circle and a telescope. Supported by a long neck and four-feet base. Inscribed 'RS 62' in a number of places and 'J. Bird London' along the curved edge of the quarter circle. Employed in the observations of the transit of Venus in 1769, at Schiehallion 1774-76 c.1767
