Memoranda and desiderata about North Polar Voyages, by various authors Lists of observational hints and longer discussions of philosophical enquiries for voyages to the North Pole, in preparation for the expeditionary voyage commanded by Constantine John Phipps (1744-1794), later 2nd Baron Mulgrave. These documents are referred to in the Royal Society's Council Minutes for the meeting of 29 April 1773: 'Papers of Mr Mountaine, the Hon. Mr Cavendish, Mr Horsley, the Astronomer Royal [Nevil Maskelyne] and the Secretary [Matthew Maty or Charles Morton] containing Instructions and directions for the use of the observers that are to go on the expedition to the N.Pole were read; and it was desired of them that they would be pleased to permit the originals of their respective papers to be kept with the minutes of the Society; and ordered that copies of them be made and delivered to Capt. Phipps'. 1773
