<dc:title>Fourth report of progress of excavations by William Pengelly, Torquay, to the British Association Kent's Cavern Committee</dc:title>
<dc:description>Monthly report of the superintendents of exploration. With a note 'Mr Vivian is from home'. Describes how the 'limestone tresses having been removed up to the thirty-fourth "parallel"... we are now occuppied with the investigation and removal of the thirty-third "parallel". Describes issues with removal of large sections of limestones, including: 'the concussion of the atmosphere', 'the noise is almost deafening', and a threat that areas of the 'roof might be dislodged'. Concludes areas of limestone that had fallen off the roof had 'required something more than a slight earthquake'. Found evidence of 'two bronze rings' and charred wood at six inches, and 'some long bones split longitudinally'. </dc:description>
