<dc:title>Letter from Geo [George] Everest, 10 Westbourne Street, Hyde Park Gardens, to [Edward] Sabine </dc:title>
<dc:description>Everest explains that the accompanying set of azimuth tables [MS/234] was for the use of the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India and was made about twenty-five years ago. The tables have never been published and there is only one other copy, left behind when he quitted his post in 1843. He presents it to the Royal Society. Although it is not his concern, in the event that it may be printed one day, he leaves it on condition 'that the original may not be left to the merciless sooty fingers of printer's devils & spoiled by their daubings'. </dc:description>
