Letter from Gideon Algernon Mantell, Castle Place, to [William Buckland] Mantell has dissected the fish fossil and gives his conclusions. He thinks that the creature must have external scales and presents a drawing of the swim bladder with an unknown object upon it. The specimen is imperfect and he sends only fragments of the object to Buckland, querying whether this unknown object might be the roe of the female. Asks if Buckland received his specimens safely. Mantell is hard at work removing his collection to a larger room. He hopes to tempt Buckland into a visit and reminds him of the promised toe-bone cast. 15 June 1829
