Letter from Antoine [Thomson] d'Abbadie, Paris to Edward Sabine Discussion on Sabine’s election to the Institut [de France]. After preparing a report to the Académie des Sciences, Abbadie was prevented from reading it on a question of ‘etiquette’, however he has spoken to a number of influential members who were surprised that Sabine had not been a member some 20 years ago, and they assured Abbadie of their vote in Sabine’s favour. Abbadie is leaving for Hemaye (Barnes Pyrenees) on Saturday. Abbadie is certain of Sabine’s election. 29 June 1870
