<dc:title>Letter from William Radcliffe Birt, Kew Observatory to Professor Royle</dc:title>
<dc:description>Birt discusses his salary. Birt informs Royle that he does not wish to inconvenience the committee by remaining at the [Kew] Observatory, and will vacate the premises once a settlement has been made to him. Birt expresses that he never wished to behave ‘unhandsomely’ to the committee. Birt refers to his note written on 5th June [see MS/257/1/179] and notes it was caused by a feeling that he could not proceed with observatory business with Mr [Francis] Ronalds, and expressed his wish for other arrangements. Birt regrets if his language was considered ‘improper or offensive’.</dc:description>
